This is how we do it! It is amazing and we have to give credit to the master of the Deep Dish, Johnny M. We make this once a week and it gives us leftovers for another meal!!! Gotta love that!
Deep Dish Pizza
- 4 cups flour
- 1 package of yeast or 1 tbsp
- 1 tsp kosher salt
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1-2 cups warm water (start with 1 cup and then keep adding until to right consistency.
Put all ingredients except water in food processor or stand mixer with dough hook. Mix up and then slowly add the warm water until all dry ingredients are incorporated. Let the machine “knead” the dough for about 3-5 minutes. It should be nice and smooth looking.
Put some olive oil in the bowl with the dough so that it doesn’t stick, cover with towel or plastic wrap, and let raise for 30-60 minutes.
When ready to go, preheat oven to 475
Put 3-4 tablespoons of olive oil in room temperature cast iron pan. We used a 16 inch pan for comparison. Roll dough out in a circle so that it will fit into your cast iron pan and come up on the sides. You shouldn’t need flour to roll it out due to the olive oil in the dough. 😊
Place in the pan, place the pan on the stove, turn on the stove to a medium heat and let it crisp up the bottom while you top it with your sauce. (let it cook on the stove top 3 minutes or so). When you hear the sizzling and see some smoke from the dough, put it in the oven.
Add whatever other toppings you want. Such as:
- Italian Salami or Cooked ground beef or cooked ground pork or any other meat
- Cooked, chopped peppers
- Feta cheese
- Sliced Olives
Bake 20 Minutes, pop it out of the pan onto a cutting board, let stand for about 3-5 minutes. Cut and eat!
